I have a lovely 1 yo hen that is a doll to be honest. Too sweet for her own good. She decided to start molting about a month ago. Our big fat roo has cut under her wing super deep once the molting was underway. We currently have her comfortable in a large dog crate inside the house due to the below freezing temps and the severity of her cut. She seems to be doing much MUCH better over the last week. Eating, drinking, talking A LOT and showing us that she is healing. She cleans the wound and it has shrunk but it still seems to be there and big enough to cause her irritation
This is all super new to me and I admit I am nervous about my girls. How long does molting take on average (her poor little back is featherless at this time as are under her wings) and how long would it take to heal a gash about an inch long?
