Yesterday my barred rock hen, Ima Chicken, was injured by a hawk. It attacked her right in front of me! I managed to get it off of her but she has a decent sized gash on her right side in between her tail and the tip of her wing. I washed the wound with warm water and it stopped bleeding. Today I'm going to put some Bacitracin on it. I put her in a cat carrier overnight and she's eating, drinking, and walking around this morning. I noticed that every few minutes she seems to pass gas and moves her cloaca. Could a hawk smashing into a chicken break an egg in side of her?!?! Has anybody else had a hen do this? I know animals are very resilient and she doesn't appear to be too uncomfortable, but I am worried about poor Ms. Ima.
