Hi,

I have 4 hens, three of them hatched together and the other one is one month later. They are around 9-10 months old now and all living together happily.
One of the hen I am questioning is a Goldtop, a cross between silkie and light Sussex. She is very easy to go broody. In average once every month since she turns 6 months old. I break her every time by not allowing her to go to the nest any by putting her water. So every month she will go broody for around a week then out, and lay for me for 3 weeks then go back to brood again.
But since the end of October, she suddenly stopped laying and also did not go broody. Not even squat when I put my hand on her back (she used to squat and all the other hen squat for me as well).
So basically she is acting like she is a young chick for the past two month, while all other hens are still laying and squat when I come by.
I have no idea why this happen?
Will she back to her normal self again or stay like that?
She is eating, drinking playing as usual, nothing wrong.

She's very pretty! If you live in the northern hemisphere, it's most likely due to the shorter days and will resume in the spring. Where do you live?
All of mine stopped laying after October.

Some birds may stop laying during the winter months and some may have gone through a light molt and stopped laying. I have a Rhode Island White that is broody right now. I have been tossing her out of the nest box a few time lately during the day and now she is getting out when I come around but as soon as I leave she's back.

I live in London, UK. I know shorter daylight effects laying. It is just a bit strange to me that other 3 is still laying pretty much every day and it is just she who is not even laid a single egg in two months. And not squatting anymore. Well, I hope she resume in spring as she was so determined to become a mother and I finally sort out my garden to give the space for that in spring. But she suddenly not broody anymore which is very unusual •ᴥ•

The other 3 are not the same breed, so they will all probably be different. Also she may be starting a molt. My pullets molted this year and stopped laying.
