Hen Laid a Mass of Egg Shells

Yesterday morning I found a "rock" in the nesting box. It was hard and heavy and we cracked it open to find that it appeared to be multiple eggs shells. Has anyone had this happen? Should I be concerned? I've been giving the girls flaxseed mixed in with veggie scraps and I wonder if I'm over doing the protein. Thank you!!

Maybe a lash egg? They seem to think it is part of the lining of the hens reproductive system. Old BYC thread on them and some links with other pics.

Thank you for the info... the "egg" was hard as a rock and had no liquid inside nor any smell. Based on what I read from the links, I don't think it's a lash egg. I wish I knew which hen laid it. None of them seem to be acting strange or lethargic.

Hopefully your hen will be OK since she passed it on her own.
