Hi everyone, I’m a bit alarmed because this morning my leghorn hen laid an egg but it seemed to be missing some shell. In the past few weeks she has also laid eggs which looked a little cracked but I thought it was because I might’ve accidentally bumped them or something. She gets a diet of pellets, some veggies and bugs/weeds she finds in the garden. Does anyone know what’s causing this and if we should change anything diet-wise?

She's probably not getting enough calcium.
What type of feed does she eat?
she gets the farm feeds hi-lay pellets. Are there any good ways that you’d recommend to boost her calcium?

If you leave a plate of crushed oyster shells in the coop so your hens can get any extra calcium they need when they need it you shouldn't have this problem again. Or you can use their own egg shells, but be sure to crush it so they don't start thinking of their eggs as food.
