Hen layed scary egg! Bloody, no shell *pic*

Yes, the others have been eating it, but this one is rather picky. I will try to trick her into eating more. I'm very curious about the blood tho.

I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing shell-less eggs. This one was particularly scary.

I am perplexed. Can you take her temerature?

Is it possible she had an egg that was broken inside of her?

How is her weight?

Only thinking you could try and give her a bit of mollasses 2 X today only in a baby syringe to get her to expell things from her. To give in her mouth just gradually put a bit on her tongue or under her tongue and let her swallow it before you give more as you do not want to choke her.And Then put her on regular feed and give her a TumS. For a boost of calcium. And take her temp.

Thank you! Wow! I hadn't thought of the molasses, and the tums makes so much sense! We will try that for sure...have to go buy some molasses, but we do have some tums. Not sure if we can take her temperature...I assume we would have to do that rectally?

Her weight is good...she's pretty chubby, as she is spoiled (eats a lot of bread, which may explain her low calcium levels). Otherwise she eats lay mash, made at the local co-op. She has not been injured that we know of, but she had a big ear infection last year that we had surgically removed (it was a large growth that responded to baytril antibiotics). She is very feisty, doesn't act as though she is ill, other than seeming sleepy on the days that she expells the weird blood globs.

Oh and to the person that asked if it tasted like a normal egg... EW! As if I would eat it! LOL

Hi, I no this is a very old post but my chicken has laid exactly the same egg as yours has. Please could you tell me what the outcome was with your hen? I am so worried about mine. Thanks x
