I have a Bantam Cochin that has 1 chick, this morning I found 1 egg in the pen this morning.
Should I put her without chick back in general population? Should I just leave them be until chick is older?
What do you do?

Lucy & Jr.

My mama is raising her chicks in with her flock and they are doing fine. Some people have had bad experiences with this. Personal choice.

ddawn, I was awfully nervous with Lucy & Jr was the standard hens and especially daddy. He would get between momma and chick with poofed out wings and lust on his beady brain. Wow, I feared Jr.s life.
So now I keep them separated.

Georgiagirl , I'm pretty tickled with young chicks from Lucy & Scooter. Sometimes I wish they would feather out already!!! lol.

OMG! That's one of the cutest chicks I've seen!

Where do you live again?

My DH is (hopefully tonight) building a chick get-away corner in the coop so I can put my 3-week olds in there. We have some old deck railings sitting around and the chicks should be able to slip through, but not the hens, in case they're being harrassed. I also plan to keep there own food and water in there for them, so they can't be chased away from it. We don't have a rooster right now though. (Hopefully there will be a good one in this batch of chicks.)

That is interesting, never heard of such a thing. Hmmm. I'm in Maine, it will be awsome to see how they turn out.

Those are parents of these little ones.

I'll have to look into building one of those items in the hen house.

This is one of their chicks, Rosebud
