Hen laying multiple double yolkers and eggs without whites!

My hen is continually laying double yolkers and if it's not a double yolker then it's either a soft shell or yesterday she had an egg with no whites -just the yolk! Is this normal? She began first lay about 3 months ago and I could count her "normal" eggs on my hands in that time. HELP!

That is definitely not normal. New layers will often a few oopsies, but after 3 months she should be producing perfect eggs. Here are some common egg deformities and causes explained that may help you figure this out, but it is possible, from the sounds of things that she has a reproductive issue:

I agree with Sumi. If this is a new layer, they can lay all kinds of funky eggs for few months after they start laying. One of my BA pullets laid double yolkers for 3 or 4 months after first starting laying. I was worried about her, but she eventually quit. I have a BR chick that for the first 2 months after starting in on laying was laying a normal egg in the nest box daily and then one soft shell and one yolk off the roost bar every night for 2 full months. So new layers can really have issues before they get their egg laying machines in gear.

If this is an adult hen, this may be a dietary issue or a genetic issue. They say that double yolkers can be genetic in origin to which there is nothing you can do about it. If this is possibly dietary, try easing off on the goodies. Fat and overly fed hens can release more yolks than they should in a 24 hour period.

I have new layers they have been laying for less than a month. I am also getting weird eggs, nothing to worry about from what I read and what old timers tell me.

I get a huge double yolk egg every other day. I have blood specks in them once in a while. The shapes are too round, real small, Thin shells, thick shells, color variations.

I appreciate your asking and the answers given you, I did not know it could take 3 months for them to straighten out. So Thanks everyone!

If she were a dog a vet would recommend spaying I doubt a hen would survive that . Is she a production hen? They are prone to reproduction issues.

I wonder if you kept her in a darker place if it would keep her from laying. Maybe her system could catch up and work out 'bugs'

Thanks so much for your help! I really appreciate this!

Drumstick Diva: Yes she is unfortunately a high production hen - She's a purebred leghorn which from what I can gather is quite a high production breed. We had rescued them from a battery farm when they were around 20 weeks old so I'm not sure how her beginning to life was... (she sure needed some TLC when they arrived to us!!)

Yesterday she laid two hard shelled normal eggs in around 4 hours. Now I'm wondering whether she will be at risk of becoming egg-bound due to how large the eggs are!

Also in regards to her nutrition, would anyone have any suggestions on a supplement for her since she's laying such large eggs, I'm worried she will be depleting her nutrition stocks by laying such large eggs so regularly so I would like to supplement her food a bit to keep her in tip top shape.
