Hen Limping

Squeezing a lot of food into the mouth of a sick bird can aspirate them....... Always do small amounts of semi moist food into the mouth if you are not tube feeding.

That said, I looked at the video. That looks more like an ouchy walk then a sick walk. She may have hurt a toe, has a small puncture etc...
The paleness in the face, hens color can change with temps, mood etc... It concerns me a little that she is allowing you to hold her more and has a little color change in face. I would worm her with some Safeguard or at least Wazine to eliminate any possibility of round worms or other worms if you use Safeguard. Some flocks can get away with not worming..others need worming every six months or so...
That and her limping may be unrelated or perhaps piggy backing on each other.
Her poo being green....if she does a lot of free ranging on grass then her poo will be very green. If it is really dry, you might want her to drink more water and add some vitamins or electrolites for poultry to it.
Confinement may do her some good and take pressure off her legs. If nothing worsens with her then a good worming and some rest might be all she needs.
Mareks can affect older birds, but not as common....they would start limping very badly, sit around more and more, lose use or control of the one leg that often ends of splayed behind them...then they stop eating or can no longer eat etc..... But I see no real signs of that yet.

I have her in the run right now, no egg yet today but every few days she takes a day off so not worried. She is either laying down or just standing so she isnt using it too much. She also isnt picking on the new girl today whether that is due to exhaustion/sickness or just finally realizes she is number 1.
Her face seems to only be paler than normal when she is laying down. Her face has always been like a mood ring, paling up as she relaxes so it is hard to read that because she could just be relaxed/calm as she is laying down.

She normally is sweet and likes to cuddle but not THAT long.

I'll make sure she is confined over night so she doesnt use the roost.

Can you help me with how to medicate for worms? I bought Wayzine (sp?) at fleet farm months back for situations like this but the directions are totally throwing me off. How much should I add to her water? And just add it to hers in her cage? I dont know if they drink enough through the night where it would be affective. I dont know where I could find some Safeguard unless it could be in a different area of the store. That is the only store around.
Her poo yesterday was like pure grass and today its like pure green but yolk consistancy. She doesnt free range more than a couple of hours a day but I have been giving her spinich the past few days.

Thanks again!

I have a limper, too. However, she is eating, pooping (laying? - they are just beginning to lay), walking and even runs/hops. She roosts as normal at night, no one is picking on her, and she doesn't really want me to hold her more than a few minutes. Her face & comb are all normal color. I felt all the toes and up her leg to her hip and could feel anything different than the "good" leg. I did notice on the pad of one of her toes (on the limping side) that the skin is flaking off. I thought maybe she stepped on something, but there isn't any mark and it's not bleeding.

My only other thought is that one morning I went into the coop to feed them and they were all gathered by the door and trough. I had trouble walking without stepping on them. One of them squawked loud and I moved my foot. I don't really know if I stepped on her toes or not, but it seems like she started limping around that time (about 2 weeks ago.) Nothing looks bruised, but I'm out of ideas on what's wrong.

Anyone else have an idea?
She's a RIR.

Ok, I am hoping someone can chime in on my new discovery

I had her sit in my lap and I felt every square centimeter of her leg and no reaction. I start rubbing her body where her thigh touches and she had a reaction where she closed her eyes and did really small nibbles up and down my arm. When I moved somewhere else she stopped and I went back and she did it again. Just really fast, nibbles up and down my arm with her eyes closed.

Any ideas?

Also I called and she was never vaccinated against Mareks
And she also took a baseball sized poop. It was so much! Holy crap !!!

That sounds like her hip is bothering her - maybe her hip is dislocated, or sore. I am not sure what to suggest to that.

On the Marek's, you could vaccinate all your chickens now. It's more effective when they are 1 day old as they have not been exposed, but nothing stops you from doing it now! You can order it online, they send large doses of which you'll only use a little, but spending $30 between vaccine, shipping and a couple of syringes is a small investment to protect against a terrible disease! I got mine from jeffers.

So even if I was touching her belly/side it might mean her hip? If she got hurt on her stomach in that area, would that cause her to limp? The frustrating thing is, I dont know how to tell if its dislocated.... I felt both sides and as far as I can tell, they feel the same. But I am so new to this that I dont even know what it would feel like. Yesterday I was watching from behind and it looked like her knee/leg may bend in more than the other or twisted inward just slightly... but I only noticed that once. I am trying so hard to figure out what is wrong that I could be seeing things.

She slept in her cage starting at 6pm last night until 11 this morning and the limp looks a little different. But whether is better different or worse different, I am not sure! This is frustrating!!!

Was that reaction telling me that it hurt where I was touching?

I am going to do some more investigating after work!

ETA: Is it the type of vaccine that I could risk her getting Marek's from it? I thought I read that somewhere but not familiar with it. I dont know if I want to take any chances if that is the case. But money is not an issue for my babies :)

mm i may have misunderstood - i thought you meant it hurts where the thigh attaches to her body. So you are saying her abdomen is tender? She did seem to have a reaction to that spot. Maybe feel it with a bit more pressure and see if something feels different than the other side. Hopefully she is just sore. I know how frustrating this is!!

Yeah I will have to look her over when I get home, I didnt have much time over lunch to really look good.

What makes me nervous is I was reading the post someone just did that is referenced to each illness/disease by symptoms

Mareks " incoordination, unthriftiness, paleness, weak labored breathing, and enlarged feather follicles. In terminal stages, the birds are emaciated with pale, scaly combs and greenish diarrhea"

Limping= incoordination? Her face is pale and kind of scaley, she has greenish diarrhea AND today I noticed she felt bumpy in areas, would that be enlarged feather follicles? How does it feel on a normal, healthy chicken?

yours doesn't sound uncoordinated and paralized, the way you are describing her. Those birds stumble, their legs stop working alltogether and stick to the sides or back/forward.

Do you have some vitamins you can add to her feed? crushed vitamin B (without iron) would be good, and also i hear people are using baby vitamins (Poli-vi-sol, again, without iron). I use Nutridrench as a supplement.

You can also add some apple cider vinegar to the water, this can help with upset stomachs as well, and at worst, do nothing, so not much downside trying that.

this has dosage too.

Here are some picture of chicken poops...so you can see if yours are different than the many normal ones:
