Hen living alone ?

Are you going to keep them both inside? Just wondering if you will find her a friend only to have the neighbour make you get rid of it again?

Probably not, which is why I was saying I would love to find a nice quiet hen or just one young enough to where the noise isn't even heard yet.

I wonder if a chick is raised by a quiet hen, will it be quiet when it grows up?

Well I've had chickens most of my life and would always bring them inside if they were sick, much to my mother's disapproval haha. But anyway, I have a silkie chick that didnt get formed right I guess and has a hard time eating and fitting in with my flock. So I decided to keep her as an indoor chicken instead. My Pet Chicken has some chicken diapers that you can buy and they work pretty good for this. So she stays inside with me and my dog and lays me an egg every morning. She's really a sweetheart. I would recommend getting a silkie as a friend for your other hen because they don't fly well, they're small and not very noisy. Plus if you have to give them a bath they clean well and just fluff up so **** cute. Haha good luck though! Hope this helps any.

I would love to get a bird like that.. I've been hearing that silk, other Ameraucanas and black aussies are my best bet for a quiet bird. But with my luck I'm sure I'll get the loudest one lol.. I would love if she'd raise it and they'd be pals. She deserves a good friend

If you're talking purebred Ameraucanas, I can tell you mine were obnoxiously loud! Also, not really that friendly. My easter eggers, on the other hand, have all been mild-mannered, friendly and pretty quiet.

I would go with a 1 or 2 week old chick from a very calm breed. I'm not very partial to the looks of silkies, but they are very personable.

I'm pretty sure my Ameraucana isn't a purebred.. I got all of my chicks from the local feed store so there's a good chance none of mine were.. Where can I get a chick that is already a week or two old ? Silkie or not I just want her to have a friendly chick

I would try to find a local breeder since you only want one. If you can find homes for 9 chicks, PapaBrooder sells chicks in batches of 10. There are many different breeds of good quality and range from 1 day - 6 weeks (you specify age).
