Hen Losing Weight

You both have mastered tubing and were able to keep your birds from dying by doing it. :D Now think about all those people that will be too afraid to tube and instead will give water a drop at a time just because they don't realize how easy it is and how much a bird actually needs. Glad both of you were brave enough to try!

Thank you Kathy, really could not of done it with out you!

Ok so far...they gave her 120 cc's of fluid. There are no worms or mites and the blood work results come in tomorrow. Here's the kicker though. They magically had a 60 cc syringe and a 14 french tube that's easier to put down their throat than what I have. It's rounded and closed at the end with openings on the side. This is the same vet that told me they didn't have any such thing, but I'm grateful I have it now. It's not the 18 but it's better than what I had rigged up. So now is hopefully the last stretch of the waiting game. We'll be continuing the feeding and fluids.

Oohhhh good. I got a hold of a 20 French, and it works well. Lol...it "magically" appeared. Don't you love that. What about the mucus??

Oh gosh that was even more important than the new tube. She doesn't have pneumonia or any other infection that they can tell. They think it's just from being dehydrated and they want me to try to space out another 120 cc's for tomorrow to try to set her straight.

Oh wow, that's interesting. So do you do 60 in am and 60 in pm??

Hmmm... I'd be a little annoyed, lol, but at least you have a better set-up now. An 18 is ideal, but a 14 is close enough.

A couple of mine can tolerate 60ml every 4-6 hours. Next time either of you goes to the vet, insist that they teach you how to give subcutaneous fluids and sell you a bag "just in case".

Kathy, I'm going on Thursday to have a re check CBC. I will ask. I'm going to another vet. It's actually one that works on chickens that's closer to me. I actually used to be a technician at the place so I was really happy when I found out he works on chickens. I will have him show me. :)
