Hen Losing Weight

That's a good way to word it. I was trying to ask her like that, but maybe I asked it a little differently and she didn't know exactly what I meant.

Yes, just got off the phone a bit ago. She isn't sure what bacteria she is targeting exact without doing a fluid culture. But she did say is it weren't illegal Baytril would be the first choice. She said besides being illegal she still wouldn't prescribe it became it can cause irritation in the esophagus. I have to tube the meds in anyways since she just spits them back at me. :) she's trying to scratch the bedding a little so that's another good sign.

Okay... so she agrees that Baytril is the drug to use, but she's making excuses about it irritating the esophagus. Fine, I've heard that before, so whatever... You can get injectable Baytril and I can teach you how to give subcutaneous and IM injections. When I give Baytril to birds I give it in the breast muscle or orally and I haven't had any issues with either. Cats I give it subcutaneously in a bolus of fluids and have seen mild injection site reactions in them.

I think I would feel more comfortable with orally. I can tube it in no problem. She didn't say anything about it upsetting her stomach so I'm wondering if I should go ahead and buy it or just leave her on what we have. I'm leaning towards buying some since she did agree it would have been the first choice beyond the legal issue.

Yeah. I wasted previous time waiting for the other antibiotic to work. Not worth it. It sounds like the vet is trying to deter you from the baytril. Personally, mine has had no problems with it and tomorrow will be 5 days. Esophagus problems? That kind of sounds like an excuse. I looked up side effects of baytril and I don't recall seeing that side effect, but I could be wrong. I do always give her the pill then give get favorite treat so she will have good in with the medicine.

Get it... I have seen some issues with vomiting, but they aren't too serious.

Ok I'll order it tonight. Should I stop the bactrim while I wait? I have enough metacam until Friday, but she said she'd give me more if needed.
