Also, you shouldn't feel guilty about your hen although I'm sure you miss her. Unlike the article recommendeds, I don't think any of us regularly weigh our hens to track their weight fluctuations and would automatically be able to predict the problem. If so, what then? It doesn't sound like any one course of treatment is proven effective if a bird is predisposed to the illness.
