My hen started making a bee haw hoo haw sound today. I could tell also she wasn't feeling good as she let me pick her up and she usually doesn't. She is a 5 month old Easter Egger and has just started laying eggs.
I have two flocks that sleep in different areas but both free range wherever during the day. In the barn flock about a month ago there was a hen wheezing. A very differnt sound than this hen is making. I heard a slight rattle in a couple of the other barn hens. I treated both flocks with Tylan 50. The hen that was the worse had to be treated longer and has been symptom free I think at least a week. Everyone has been great. Today was hot. The girls have fresh water and lots of shade. At the afternoon snack time I heard punk in making the noise. I first thought she and another hen were exchanging words but then it continued. I picked her up and felt along her throat and neck to see if something was stuck as it reminded me of that noise. It didn't sound rattle or wheezy like the others had before. I checked her abdomen and vent and everything felt fine. When she was upside down she was not making the noise. I put her in the kennel in the garage. I gave her a dropper of olive oil incase something was stuck. I gave her 1ml of Tylan 50 orally just incase as I really do not know what to do. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. I hope I am explaining the sound enough so someone knows what I mean. I am not sure if I could include a video anywhere or not on the forums.
Thanks
