Hen Not Being Active

If it isn't Cocci, would giving them Corid harm her/them? Do I need to give it to all of them. I found 20% soluable corid powder.
No it will not harm them. It's not a "med" per say, it is a thiamine blocker, which is what the parasite lives on. That's why no vitamins, as you would be feeding the cocci and negating the corid. and again, yes, all of them need to be treated, it's very contagious. Passed through the poo's. That is why it is important to change their water if it gets poo in it for the entire treatment. Like I said, I had to change mine 3-4 times a day...each time, put in new corid. I saw a difference in mine in about 4-6 hours after feeding the mushy med feed especially! Like I said, even the ones that stopped eating, were gobbling this down. Just make sure they don't poo in that too. I stayed while they ate most of it, as I wanted to make sure everyone had a good amount of it. I even hand fed a few of them, that couldn't get to the feeder as easily, I used their baby feeder, so I knew they got plenty of the medicated mushy feed into them.

I did that... a week ago for mites. I scrubbed until my knuckles were stiff and raw so the coop would be clean from mites. I bought a mazillion bags of shavings to cover the whole 200' + coop. And I have to do it AGAIN! I am so stressed and frusrated right now I could scream and cry and stomp my feet. To put it lightly. and to top it off, I leave in less then 12 hours.

I got corid liquid 9.6% active ampolium. It's for calves. I did the math and it would be 4.73 ml for 1 gallon of water, but that would be calf-size portions. Does that sound right?

Yup,you cancelled out the vaccine, meaning your chickens could get cocci. Also not all vaccines cover all 9 strains of cocci,i believe there is only one that covers 8,most cover 3-6 strains. You cannot give medicated feed to chicks that have been vaccinated for Coccidiosis. Do not get stressed, this happens. Cocci is a parasitic infection of the intestinal tract, spread by droppings which get into feed water via droppings. Can be spread by birds.your clothes/hands/shoes,feed utensil, bringing new chickens into your flock, etc. Some symptoms are runny/watery poop(may or may not contain blood, depends on which of the 9 strains it is)fluffed feathers, lethargic, not eating/drinking properly, general look of unwell. Doses for Coccidiosis have been posted in previous posts. Treating Chickens with Corid(amprolium) will not harm them, but not treating if they have cocci, can result in deaths.

NO, if you give them the Corid treatment, they will not die from cocci...as long as you can find someone that will tend them the way they need to be for the treatment to work.

I hear ya. I cleaned out the coop, with them IN it...when they first got sick, just not with the ammonia...if you use half water, half ammonia, let it sit for half hour...it should spray right off...it takes about 30 minutes for the ammonia to kill the cocci anyways...mine sprayed right off, only had a few spots I had to scrape with a putty knife and really scrub, but most, of the rest, sprayed right off. I used the hose for a long long time too!

I know, I have also spent a fortune on bedding this past week or so, plus all the bedding that was already in there the first time I cleaned it out...yikes!!!

This is all part of keeping chickens, keeping livestock. They get sick sometimes and we have to be there to take care of them. It's what we all chose to do, when we bought chickens or other livestock...atleast that is what I hope everyone did? Made the choice to put the animals first? The tend to get ill at the most inopportune times also...just like little kids! That is the responsibility we take on with owning another living being. No matter how hard it is.

I am no spring chicken, far from it...so this whole week has me in such pain, it's not even funny...but,I chose this and this is all part of good animal husbandry!

Suggesstion, when I put the new bedding in, and I hate using chemicals, I put down straw first( which can house mites, lice and other blood feeding parasites), for insulation, so dusted the straw with sevin, then topped with shavings. Just a hopefully helpful tip ?
