I have been refraining from asking the ever popular "why did my hen stop laying" question for a loooooong time. Finally, I can say all the typical reasons are ruled out. so what's up with her?

Here is the essential data:

About a year and a half old EE, lays green eggs
Started laying last November, here are her stats:
Dec 2008: 23 eggs
Jan: 23 eggs
Feb: 19 eggs
March: 16 eggs
April: 9 eggs, two were blue
May: 4 eggs + a fart egg, two were blue
June: One egg - and it was blue fading to almost white

Diet hasn't changed, no one has been sick, she looks and acts totally healthy. No feather loss (doesn't appear to be molting). Not at the top or bottom of the pecking order, not apparently stressed with life.

What is up with this? Has anyone else had this happen, and if so, did they start to lay again?

Thanks!

Yes, I will say the weather too. My hens are on strike too but....we are almost all broody! I'm on the verge of having to buy some eggs...

I notice you are in Arizona. It's too hot. It has been the hardest on my EE. I broke her from being broody, but she still wouldn't lay for a while. She always acts the hottest too. I think her nether regions are so hot they think its broody time even though the rest of her isn't.

If it is the heat, it is weird that it would only affect one of the hens. the others just keep on laying like nothing has changed! Maybe she is just sensitive? Hmmm...

Maybe she will be my winter layer when everyone else is on a molting break!

My BBS Silkies have completely stopped laying, my white Silkies are laying about 1/2 of what they were, and my Frizzles and the girls I use for eating eggs are pumping out 1 a day like there's no heat wave at all. I guess it just affects them all differently...

Thats so weird. Probably she will molt in the winter and not lay then either! And so I will have a hen that lays 100 eggs a year instead of 300+. Good thing for her she is pleasant and pretty.
