Her first egg. Then I found another hen in the nests. Hopefully they’ll all get started for the first batch of hens soon! The egg is the brown one and compared to a store bought white lg egg. So eggcited.

I have another question! I found a second good egg and a broken one in the same nest. Could it have been broken by inexperienced hen? I have since added more bedding in nests. I will be getting some oyster shells calcium tomorrow. Broken shell was kinda thin. Large good egg was a double yolker.

It could have been layed by an inexperienced hen. A lot of new layers lay wonky eggs at the beginning. Too small (fairy/fart egg), thin shell, no shell, double yolks. Sometimes it takes them a bit of time to get it right!

Yeah. Sometimes they will like some weird eggs when they first start. I had one I took out that felt like a Jell-O jiggler. My daughter called it the alien egg. It could’ve been a thin eggshell or sometimes I’ve had mine try to cram more than two in there at one time and ended up stepping on them and breaking them

I thank you for all the information. Yea the larger egg was a double yolk. I just look forward to having them all laying. We have 4 different ages here. Someone said we need to separate the layers from those not laying. Said the others will eat the new eggs. True or false? I will just try to keep them collected.

You don't have to separate them if they are getting along. Just keep collecting the eggs as soon as you can. If some of them are not laying yet don't get layer feed just supplement your regular feed with oyster shell on the side.
