my four hens grew up to be roosters. My friend took my roosters for her flock and gave me three hens that are 1 1/2 years old. I have had the three hens now for about 5 days. I only have received three eggs so far. One egg couple hours after putting them in my coop. Then two days later I found 2 eggs in the coop. Seems like they are only laying eggs every other day at best, is this normal. Also seems like only two of the hens are laying. I have one that has larger cone then other two and this morning she/he was trying to crow. I will attach a picture of the bird. Any help on this would be great.

Hen. Buff Orpingtons lay 3-5 eggs a week the first year than production becomes more sporadic after that. They take breaks throughout the season but will still lay 3-5 eggs a week when laying. Generally stress will cause a halt in laying, being moved to a new home is definitely stressful.

That's a hen. At 1.5 years they might start slowing down and Oldhen is right, they aren't the best layers anyway. Mine is laying less than that right now, but it's hot here.
