Hen Pecked Rooster

I know this is an old thread but I looked far and wide and Kung Foo's advice in here saved my birds.

I have 6 leghorn hens and we added a young silkie roo into the mix. He was really cute but a total wimp. He was getting pecked non-stop, and he would run... and the chase was on, all of the birds were after him... We tried every suggestion we could find and nothing seemed to work.

After 3 weeks alone with aggressive hen #1, our roo was a new bird. He started crowing and wasn't in hiding all day. When it came time to add aggressive hen #2, our roo went into attack mode and didn't let up until aggressive hen #2 gave in.

Thanks a bunck Kung Foo!!

Hen pecked roo too! However, this situation is a bit different.

They all get along soo well, except when he is in the act of mating one of the hens. When he does several of them will run to them and begin violently pecking the roo while in the act around his neck. This behavior befuddles me. Now, this sweet roo is showing signs of damage around his neck, missing feathers and exposed skin.

He was the same age as the hens when we introduced him but he was not a part of the original "flock" of hens. They seemed to take to him. Though he had to display his dominance toward the "top" hen just once. He's doing all the expected roo things as the "man" of the house otherwise.

I will be interested in finding out how you resolve your issue. Maybe it will shine some light on mine.
