Hen, right?

This is a girl, correct? She's still not laying and will be a year old next month. She fares out her feathers and stands up tall when the cat gets near her or in the run. (Cat only gets in the run when they free range and the door is open). She also tries to mount the girls. But I would think by a year old it would be more obvious if she was a he, right? I only have hens so no other rooster.

Oh, those dominant hens can wreak havoc on a flock. She sure is pretty, though!

She's not too bad, just gets very confused when the other don't let her mount them. She's also not even close to the highest on the pecking order. I think she's very confused. She's not mean to them either, just me. As long as I don't try and pick her up, we are fine. If I have to handle her, she acts like a chihuahua in a chicken body.

I was thinking that also but I know that's rare. I'm fine if she doesn't lay but I prefer she doesn't start crowing.

It is a hen. No long tail or saddle feathers. She might not be producing enough female hormones. It is rare but it happens. Also, sometimes in the absence of a rooster a hen can take on rooster traits. I do not know how to fix it. Just a thought....

I thought so. Just very confused on why she's not laying yet and why she's acting like a rooster.

Ok. By the color and size of her comb I'm suspecting she is laying then, just not the dark eggs I thought I would get. I've never seen her in a nesting box either. Maybe it's time to put some color on her vent to do a test...
