Okay, I have a barred rock hen around 2 years old. She has been sneezing, sounds like wheezing, but maybe its rattling, and some difficuilty breathing. I gave my whole flock Textroxy HCA-280-Antibiotic for 14 days 8/27/10 to 9/9/10 when I heard a couple of my hens sneezing. Well, my barred rock hen didn't seem to get better. So I went to my local country farm supply store and talked to them for they had raised chickens before. they sugguested Igive her Sulment-antibactial. for 2 days. and not to eat eggs for 10 days. So I put her in a separate pen to give her this medicine. I gave it to her for 2 days, she seem to start getting better. then on 9/16/10, She got worse. started sneezing, wheezing, rattling again really bad. so I called the vet and he said to go ahead and give her the sulment again for 4 to 5 days so I gave it to her on 9/16/10 to 9/20/10 she seemed to be getting better wasn't sneezing, wheezing, and rattling as bad, but then on 9/21/10 I went to check on her first thing this morning and she was like she was having difficult time breathing (gasping for air) So I called the vet again and they said it sounds like it is in her air sacs that basically she is going to die and not to put her with the rest of my flock cause she could make them sick. I am trying to figure out what she has and I found in my book "Storey's guide to Raising Poultry" Chronic Respiratory Disease and it to me sound like her symptoms: rattling, sneezing and sniffling and may be difficult breathing It also said it is not a killer but can cause considerable morbidity especially if treatment is not undertaken soon. I am not ready to give up on her. Her name is Meanie. But what I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on what to try next and help Meanie. I just feel she could get better and not be sick anymore. I was thinking what if I give her the antibiotic again would that help or is it to soon. I really need help. I don't want to lose Meanie. Any suggestion?
