Hi guys. Just wanted some Advise on one of my hens. Recently shes been making continuous noises like ‘ka ka ka ka ka’ which im assuming shes indicating she wants to lay as all other hens I had would do that and then go lay. However on few occasions she will go into the coop and stay in the nesting box, after awhile she’ll come out and theres no eggs in the nesting box, she will then lay on the floor in the run. Now im confused why she does this? The coop and nesting area is very clean and no sign of any parasites, in the last few days she is continuing to make the noise ‘’ka ka ka ka’’ and shes not entering the coop to lay, she’ll only enter when its time to sleep. If theres anyone out there please share your thoughts. Just to mention she is also a young hen who has recently started laying.

Has she laid yet?
Pullets coming into lay can make a lot of noise.
It can take up to a month before things smooth out.
Shes laid 2 eggs so far. She is very noisy. Her first egg was last week and 1 this week, both were laid on the floor in the run. Shes goes in to the coop and sits in the nesting box for quit awhile, but ended up laying both eggs in the run .

I had a new layer lay outside the coop for two months, after sitting inside a nesting box, before she started laying in the box. I had assumed it was because she was still learning.
Thnks this could also be the issue with her. Thnks for that

Update on my hen. She used the nesting box tday which is good, however her egg was broken, looks like she pecked at it or tried eating it 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ And suggestion how to stop that?

Does the egg look like this?

If so, it's because the egg dropped onto the floor of nest. Not enough straw or shavings in nest.
The hen stands up when egg is coming out and the pointy end hits the hard floor.
A 3" to 4" high piece of wood will help to keep shavings in nest. 20181110_101340.jpg . GC
