Hi everyone. Just a quick update on my Gwen. Her progress has been very slow but i believe she's going to make it. As suggested, i started giving her watery feed 3 or 4 times a day...she barely finished half a teaspoon each time but at least it was something. She has now started drinking water on her own and is picking at the food mix i give her. She's still off balance and rears backward a lot. Maybe damage to her ear drum? Anyone know if that'll heal on its own? I've been taking her out for walks but need to stay with her as the other hens want to attack her and the roosters want to mate her! She tried scratching the ground a bit, but almost fell over...poor girl. Anyway, thanks for all the help. Will keep you posted.

I would try some vitamin supplement... to make up for what she hasn't eaten. Vitamin and mineral deficit can cause lots of things. Glad she is drinking on her now, that's definitely improvement... she's lucky to be alive after meeting up with a baboon.

What is her regular feed? Is it chicken feed? Did you already try a scrambled (or boiled and smashed) egg for her, even watered down? They are easy to digest and a fantastic source of nutrients.

Will try a supplement. I offered scrambled egg...she wasn't interested...will try boiled egg and water it down a bit.
Her regular feed is chicken food.
Yes, she's lucky to survive an encounter with a baboon. The troop moves through the farm every week...they're a real nuisance...very destructive.

So Gwen recovered well and has been back with the flock for about two months now.
She's laying eggs again and is mostly back to normal. Having "fun" with the roosters and all that. Lol. Her balance is fine again and her vision seems good too. She still walks with her neck pulled back a little but doesn't seem to have any trouble eating or drinking.
I'm so glad she's recovered so well and just thought I'd share.
We also got ourselves a border collie pup and she's been great at alerting us to the presence of baboons...she has the good sense not to go after them as they would rip her to shreds but she barks at them and then I can come out and chase them off.

So things have been more peaceful for my flock since we introduced the pup...and she's great with the chickens.

Thank you for the update, and I am so glad to hear that she has recovered. Hopefully the dog will keep warning off the baboons. I am always amazed at the different kinds of predators that people all over the world have to deal with.
