Hello all,I'm new here and fairly new to chickens in general and in need of some assistance please.i recently was given some isa browns and a few days later I noticed 1 had a large lump on the breast.after doing research I've learned she has a crop issue, remember I'm new to this and know very little. Shes acting fine with plenty of energy and shes drinking and eating fine.the crop isnt extremely hard but isnt what I would call mushy either.i dont notice a sour smell like people describe with sour crop but she is gurgling and coughing.she also doesnt appear to be pooping,I've isolated her in a crate and brought her inside so I can see her cage is fairly clean.i dont know if I have a sour or impacted crop.ive read several articles on this site and I still dont know what I have.her behavior seems normal and if I pick her up and feel or try to massage it she doesn't complain at all like its painful or tender

:frow Hi and welcome to the coop. Sorry your hen is having issues. When you get this resolved, you might post an intro in the New Members thread. Meanwhile, good luck with your girl! :hugs

She looks like she may have pendulous crop which is when the crop has been stretched from chronic overeating, and it may have lost it’s elasticity. It can lead to sour crop. A crop bra, which is a padded stap that fits under and around the crop to keep it from overfilling is usually recommended. You can make one or order one. I would probably feed her liquids, and limit her food for a day or so to see if it will lesses.

I wasnt able to compare her to the other hens before they were fed this morning so I'll try tomorrow.she definitely has a sour crop as I was able to empty some of it today, out came the bitter smelling brownish liquid and it is now a little smaller.ive withheld her food but am giving her hydro hen water additive with probiotics to help her.thanks for the tips and advice,I think she may have the pendulous crop as well so I'm going to try a support for her and see if it helps

Be careful trying to make her vomit. Some of the gunky crop contents can almost get stuck, and they can choke to death, but it may be helpful in some cases. A lot of veteran chicken people have had a chicken die before making them vomit. Some good products to use against sour crop are fish fluconazole available here :

Or Nystatin (Medistatin) available here:

Here are a couple of good articles about crop disorders by azygous and two crows who have experience:
