I am looking for advice on my young hen (2 1/2 months).
She is having trouble walking (uses her wing to brace herself) and won't put pressure on her left leg. I have noticed there is a small red bump and the only thing I can think it's from is a possible break or sprain from hopping down from her roost. I have kept her separated and is in a crate where she can hopefully heal. Any help is appreciated. I don't know what a parasite would look like but I'm hoping it's not that.
I've attached a head shot to see if there is any visual sign of illness.
TIA

It does look like a bruise, and maybe a little swollen. She could have a broken leg, or just an injury. If possible, you could get it xrayed by your regular vet to see if it is broken. Splinting a broken bone may help if it is aligned right. It can take several weeks for a broken bone to heal. Chicken slings can be helpful to get them upright and place food and water in front of them for ease of eating. Here are some pictures below:

You are welcome. I hope she recovers. Take her out of the sling often to stretch, and let her sleep on the floor at night. Let us know how she gets along.

so just an update. my girl has developed a VERY swollen eye. She has no other symptoms and the leg seems to be slowly healing. She will stand on it now but without confidence as she is a little unbalanced but I don't know if that has to do with her eye or not. She coos and loves to cuddle and is still eating though not eagerly. I do find she will sort of sideways "peck" at the air. Is that indicative of anything?
I will go the meds route if it is absolutely necessary but I would prefer to heal it naturally as best I can but that is always easier if I know what I'm trying to heal.

Any ideas what this might be? The eye is not pussing, just very swollen.

TIA
