Hen with sour crop, vent gleet AND worms - help

That all sounds promising. So glad she is on the mend. And yes, it really is too much some days!
Minnie's crop is still not empty in the morning and it is still basically squishy but much smaller than a few days ago. She is eating heartily which I guess is a good sign and her crop doesn't get massive like it did when I first spotted the issue.
I keep on massaging and just hope she can clear it.
I have 2 days of miconazole to go and I would be much happier if her crop was clear before I finished the course.
Tigers was like that too and then on the 6th morning it was just flatish so.....
Keep up on the coconut oil too, I think that really has helped get things moving out. I dont know what the next course of action would be should this come back again for either of us. Hopefully someone here will be able to advise and I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for both of us. Try to have a relaxing evening, a glass of wine perhaps. Making dinner now so will check back with you again. Minnie is in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks. And for you too!
I have one other chicken to give their worm medicine to and one more dose of miconazole for Minnie before I can relax. But definitely heading to a glass of wine after that.

Great news. Minnie’s crop was empty this morning.
:wee
How is Tiger getting along?
:celebrateso very happy for you and Minnie!
Tiger appears to be back to normal so lets hope it stays that way....her vent is still a little swollen and stuff is still a little runny at times coming out. trying to add probiotics for all so lets hope it works itself out. I was planning on checking in with you so thanks for updating me.

Great news. And good reminder on probiotics.

:(Tiger is off again. Dont quite know what is up, her crop feels normal but her vent is still swollen and leaking a bit. She is slow, quiet, a bit hunched. I guess I am going to have to separate her again. I am so frustrated:barnie I do not know what to do. Monday is when I give the second wormer dose.

Oh so sorry to hear that. I have no experience if swollen vents. Maybe start another thread on it to get some advice?

I'll stick this link here so we can continue our discussion. https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...w-to-know-which-one-youre-dealing-with.73607/

One of the signs of a crop disorder is a crop that doesn't empty. If a crop is slow and only empties partially, it can cause the condition called stasis where the crop contents begin to ferment because they aren't moving. Sometimes this is caused by the crop hanging too low for the contents to empty. View attachment 3137095On this diagram, if you locate the crop and follow it to the proventriculous, you'll see the "drain" isn't at the bottom, but somewhere in the middle. When a crop is poorly supported by chest muscles that may be flacid, a crop bra can often help such a hen by raising the crop so it drains more easily.

The only way, though, to be certain of a crop disorder is to check the crop first thing in the morning before the hen eats anything. The crop should be empty. If it's not, we have a problem.
@azygous maybe you can help as you were helpful to begin with. my hens crop went down after the miconazole treatment and I had given a dose of safeguard for the roundworms found on the third so I have another dose to give on Monday. She perked up about two days ago, walking around with energy eating normally out and about grazing etc... seemed for the most part fine. Her vent still a bit swollen from the gleet so still cleaning and putting on lotrimin. discharge from vent is not as liquidy but still runny more brown then yellow white but still there. yesterday afternoon she seemed a bit lethargic again, felt crop - did not feel squishy. she went up to roost earlier than usual, this morning felt crop it was flat but gave her a little coconut oil to keep things moving, put out fresh food this morning and she just kind of stood there took a sip of water, pecked at feed but did not eat it and went into a corner. Any ideas?? Any advice? I am just really frustrated.
