I went out to the coop to check for eggs and one of the chickens left side of its face is enlarged. It is still eating and drinking. I looked for injuries but could not find any. Help!!! What do I do????????????????

should I separate from the rest of the flock with her best friend? because they go everywhere together and think that they would both be heartbroken if they were separated.

Swelling of the face with no signs of injury could be a sign of sinus problems. It could aslo be a number of things. Chickens don't get colds the way people do. If it is sinus related, you want to get her away ffrom the rest of the flock ASAP so she does not spread germs, infection or worse-----disease to any other flock members. I don't know what to say about how to treat or help your sick chicken, but I would advise quarentine and fast! Good luck and I hope more members can offer morre on the subject to help

Im going to try to get some pics so you can see. Right now she is in the basement bathroom SEPARATED from the rest of the birds. What can I do??????

I agree that you should call a vet. Does the chicken have an obstruction in her sinuses? It could also be an absess? Even a small scratch that you can't see can get infected and cause swelling under the right circumstances. I have seen this happen to many of my pets many times. Is their other signs of illness? Fever, sneezing, mucus, etc. The normal temp for a chicken is around 103 degrees. The flu or an absess/infection is always accompanied by a fever. If she has an infection, especially due to an obstruction, try to get her to the vet or antibiotics ASAP. Chickens with infections can go downhill fast. Most vet visits for infections run in the $45-75 range at my vet. They generally work out a deal if you can't pay upfront.

Best of Luck

Well I cant get a pic because the camera needs to be charged. We are going to try to just see what happens. We are going to church soon so we don't have time to have a vet check. She still eating and drinking so that is a good thing. I also can hear a very very slight weezing. The best we can do for her is add some vitamins and electrolytes in her water.

ok You have her seperated. is the basement warm? Take a close look at the swollen area,
Is it hot? is it hard? any missing feathers? Injuries?

use a warmed water washrag like a compress and see if the swelling is reduced.
ACV in water until you determine what is the problem.......1 teaspoon per Quart of water.

definitely need pictures to help identify the problem.
