2- Using Tylan 50. I prefer to inject it in her, she is very stubborn and other methods would not be an option for her. I’m not sure how much I am supposed to inject directly into the breast (some say ¼ cc, some say ½ cc, some say under the skin, some say into the breast). She is a standard size chicken, not quite a year old. Any help and suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
If you want to use Tylan 50 you need to know that all those posts that say 1/4 cc and 1/2 cc are wrong. Tylan, when given to birds, should be given 3 times a day, never once a day. There are some vets on a chicken vet Facebook page that say to give 0.2 ml (1/5 ml) per *pound* every 6-8 hours. Because it can cause severe injection site reactions I think they suggest giving it under the skin. If I were going to use it I would give it orally.

If your hen is an average sized laying hen she probably weighs 5 pounds, so if I were treating one that size I would give it no less than 1 ml 4 times a day, but I would give it orally.

Thank you!! This is VERY helpful!

Does she have any funky smells around her head or on her breath?

Her wattles and cheeks do look a little puffy. Compare the temperature of her skin to another hens, is it overly hot in comparison?

Have you done anything out of the ordinary lately? New plants, food, animals, etc that she’s been around?

Looks like it could be a mild mycoplasma (MG) infection, which can cause facial or eyelid swelling and may cause bubbles in an eye. I would give the Tylan50 orally, 0.2 ml per pound 3 times a day, if possible, or 0.3 ml per pound twice a day for 3 to 5 days. If she like eggs, you can mix it in that with a little plain yogurt, or other snack she will eat. The yogurt will give extra probiotics if your feed has none.
