Thanks for the fishing net idea....I think that is probably what I will try to do. As far as cooping them, legally I am not supposed to and someone already called animal control on me but once they realized they were wild birds, they didn't do anything. They told me to NOT feed them but I have ignored that....
I would also be afraid that they might be more vulnerable to predators if I cooped them. Now, at night, they get very high up in a tree so I'd be concerned about keeping them closer to the ground. We don't have a lot of wildlife b/c it is a well-populated subdivision but there is an occasional fox or coyote. If they were unable to get up in the tree, I would do something else for them regardless of code restrictions.
