I was visiting my friend yesterday, talking chickens and such.
She currently has a 1 year old Silver Laced Wyandotte inside recuperating from a nasty infection around her vent area. She has no idea how it happened, found her one morning in the coop with a bloody backside. Has been treating for 4 weeks with warm water soaks, betadine, and triple antibiotic ointment. Went from bloody, to nasty smelly yellow pus infected, to almost healed up.
Anyway, I noticed yesterday that her wattles are very swollen! Not discolored, just very swollen. She's in a great weight, eats and drinks great, lays an egg every day (despite the vent injury!!) No respiratory symptoms at all, in fact, no other symptoms of anything! Friend doesn't know how long she's had this since she didn't notice the swelling in the first place!!
Any idea what would cause this? Could the swollen wattles be caused by the other infection?
