About yesterday or the day before, I noticed one of my Buff Orpington hens has a small bump on the rim of one of her eyes and a larger, scabby bump between the same eye and her beak. A few days before this, she had a scabby bump on her back, where new feathers are growing in from a recent molt. I applied some coconut oil to the bump and it appears to have went away. Now these new bumps have showed up on her face and I'm at a loss as to what is causing them. We seem to have had a mosquito outbreak within the past two weeks, but I don't think the bumps would be mosquito bites. The hen is acting perfectly normal otherwise: eating, drinking, foraging, etc.

You have a beautiful hen. I'm curious to see what kinds of things people come up with. We have tons of mosquitios, but I've never seen any bumps.

Now the bump on her eye has grown to cover almost half of her eye, but she is still eating, drinking, etc.

Is there any puss or other drainage? Or is it hard like a scab? Have you tried any antibiotics or antibiotic ointment?

The first time I felt the bumps, they appeared hard. I don't see anything draining from the bumps, but the one close to her beak is scabby, while the one on her eye is smooth. I have not given her antibiotics yet.

It's good she's still eating and drinking. Do any other chickens have bumps? I wonder if it could be a reaction to bug bites and if maybe even neosporin would help.

I had some chickens get a form of fowl pox that made hard bumps in their heads and beaks. It was very very hard and if it came off there was a hole under it. I left them alone after that and when they fell off it was healed underneath. Mine had dark colored bumps...your chicken's looks a bit purple?

None of my other chickens have bumps, as far as I can tell. I haven't seen any more bumps appear on her face so far, so hopefully that's a good sign. Her bumps aren't dark-colored or purple except for the scab on the bump near her beak.

Just wanted to update, the hen's bump on her eye has grown smaller. I applied a good layer of coconut oil to it and that seemed to help.
