I have a young hen who is coughing and gasping for air once in a while. I already have her quarantined due to treatment for an impacted crop. Her symptoms all started after we had our first cold day and it stormed all day. The day after that is when she started her wheezing and coughs. What should I give her? I'm heading to the feed store today so I can pick up whatever I may need.
She is 22 weeks old. A barnyard mix that I adopted when I adopted her mom in May. Wormed previously. Has no mucus coming out. She isn't eating too much. I've felt her from head to toe and she feels normal now and her crop is now empty. Just seems like she has a cold but I'm not sure.

Chickens don't get "colds", to be specific, the rhino virus is strictly reserved for the enjoyment of humans.

Chickens can carry potent respiratory viruses, however, their very own style of misery, probably even more serious than our colds since once infected, the virus lives inside them for life, recurring when their immune system gets compromised. The viruses remain extremely contagious even when chicken show no symptoms.

There is no cure. The best you can do is treat the symptoms with Denagard or Tylan or other antibiotics which can target specific viruses.

Here is a good link to read about the common respiratory diseases in chickens: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

They can get viruses (infectious bronchitis, ILT, Newcastles,) bacterial or mycoplasma infections (MG, coryza,) or they can get fungal diseases from mold that can affect them. You may want to read about MG, coryza, and infectious bronchitis to compare her symptoms. Some diseases can leave them carriers for life, or as in infectious bronchitis, up to a year after recovery. These can be brought in by new flock members who do not appear to be ill, by wild birds, or through contaminated shoes or clothing.
