I have a 9 month old speckled Sussex. She was free ranging on our property with the rest of our girls yesterday and a neighbor dog jumped his fence and scattered the flock. I didn’t see it happen so I don’t know if the dog made contact with her, or if she hurt herself getting away. I found her crouched in the neighbors bushes. I didn’t find any injuries when I got her home, legs and feet seem uninsured. She made it onto her roost bar herself last night, but I found her inside the coop by herself while the other 6 hens were outside in their run this morning.
I made her a “chicken hospital” inside our basement. She’s in a large box filled with shavings. She won’t move at all. I can pick her up then when I put her down she’ll stand on both legs and take a step or 2 but stayed in that position for hours today. She won’t eat anything, even meal worm or greens - her favorite treats. I filled her waterer with probiotics and electrolytes but she won’t drink it. I’ve been using a dropper to drip it into her beak. She had maybe 1/4 cup today.
Any other tips? I don’t know what’s wrong with her so I’m just trying to provide comfort & hope she makes it. Ideas??
