Hen wont use left leg at all!

Uh oh, that could be a compound fracture if the bone pierced the skin. Does it look like it came through the skin? Do you have Betadine or Chlorhexidene for disinfecting the wound? The bone needs to be straightened befroe splinting. I have never set a bone in my own chicken before, so I would try to get it straight with some traction on the joint and the foot, then one persone hold the leg while the other splints it. If you could clean off the area tonight and see a vet in the morning, that might be easier. So sorry this happened.

The dark spot could be just a wound, so just check to see of the bone seems to be coming through the skin or not. If it is a compound fracture (piercing the skin) she will need an antibiotic to prevent bone infection. I would put something on the wound, such as Betadine.

We did pull her leg out and back (like a natural chicken stretch) I dont think it came through the skin. We have betadine I think.

That is good news. I hope all goes well tonight. Once she gets splinted tomorrow or later, you might want to go back and look at the chicken sling designs. I tried making one today for my lame hen, but it was too short, and she hopped out. I am going to try making a bigger one where her feet don’t touch the floor like this one:

On the chicken sling/seat which is very helpful... the poop hole is important, they don’t seem to like pooping if there’s something near their vent (leads to struggling to escape the thing near their bottom). And I’ve been wrapping the chicken I’m putting in one for soaking with a towel, not even very tightly, which seems to keep her more calm and relaxed in it (no flapping of wings or trying to get out, unless she needs to poop!)

Best of luck to you and your chicken! Your doing great in treating her.
