Hen won't use one leg

The original Bumblefoot foot does look swollen. You may want to resume soaks to see if that helps. Could be not all the core came out or there is infection in it. The same with this latest development, she may have the beginning of infection (bumblefoot) there as well.

You can also try soaking in Tricide Neo to see if that takes the infection out. I've never used it, but people have had good results. You would have to order it online or if you have a fish store you might find it there.

In the meantime, if she will tolerate it - you may want to soak both feet, apply the neosporin and wrap both.

Well we are back to special feedings. Today she didn't get out of the nest box herself. Her and her leghorn sister where in the coop. She was in the nest box looking forlorn and her sister was standing nearby keeping her company.
When I got her down she hopped off but she's not wanting to use that leg.
She was back in the coop about 3:30 (again with her sister for company) and just standing on a low board I have in a corner. I picked her up and brought her to the porch for some TLC. It's unseasonably hot and she was panting. I put her in the shade and prepared dinner for her.
It was still so hot outside so we had a kitchen dinner date. LOL

Paper towels to hopefully catch any poo, some mash with nutri-drench and baby bird powder mixed in. Some ice water (that she didn't touch). And I had a fan gently blowing our way.
Wait...maybe she can walk and just wants all this attention!
Hopefully she'll be feeling better soon. I wish I knew what was going on with her leg. She has chicken arthritis or something. With it being so hot I didn't want to soak her in warm water. I cleaned both feet, Neosporin, cotton ball padding and wrapped them up. She looks like she's ready for a boxing match.

She's clearly pained by it. She (and her sister) waited for me to get her down again today. I did put her in a nest box I have on the floor to see if she'll chose that one tonight....
I'm going to give her aspirin water again. Can I do more aspirin to water? She's not very big and I don't want to make her sick on it. I also don't want her in pain.
She doesn't seem bothered by me manipulating the leg but it makes an awful noise. A sort of pop and click :sick
I try not to make it do that but still try and do some therapy movement. I ask her if she's ready for chicken yoga. She just looks at me like I've lost it.
I hope she starts doing better again. Poor girl.

I wondered the same. Not sure how I would figure that out. (No chicken vet around) Then what if it is? She does move it. But I've noticed it's a little floppy.
My other thought was she damaged a tendon. Streatched it or over extended it somehow. So it's slipping in and out. I need to look for some chicken anatomy/skeletal/muscular pictures.

That is a very cool link. I really think it's her hip. I'm not real sure how to help her with it. She was doing better with extra attention and physical therapy. I stopped treatment when it became almost impossible to catch her in the day. I need to see if she can have something for arthritis... glucosamine chondroitin or something. I'll try and post a video on her too.

She's been acting a little funny lately. Still only using one leg. She seems a little more skittish about eating. In the morning I feel some of the pellets that are always available in her crop. Not many but she's feeding herself at least a little. When I offer the wet mash mixture she eats some then looks around. Looks back at the food like thinking about eating but doesn't. I sit with her longer and she eats more but again stops to look around.
Reading about tendon and muscle issues I added riboflavin to her food. Chopped almonds and some walnuts. (Walnuts more for a weight gain) She picked out the nuts but was still funny about eating.
Today I tried salmon. This morning she wasn't interested in much of it. This afternoon she was again being skittish. Looking around frequently and only eating if I handed it to her. I got her to eat it all then mixed up some wet pellets. I set her down in the coop and others came in to see what was going on. She defended her food! Then ate all the mash pretty quick. Her crop felt nicely full after that.
We did her exercises and I let her go. She hopped off.
:confused::he:barnie

Leave it to chickens to confuse us more:rolleyes:
It's fall, so is she starting to molt? Could be she feels a bit prickly. Mine don't want anyone to close when they are molting.

Also wondering, since she is acting that skittish, have you noticed if any of the other girls are running her from food when your not there?
