I hope this is how I get some specific information. Our first year raising this wonderful flock. We have americaunas and some mix, we have a rhodebar red rooster and a couple hens. I love them all.. My question is about the rooster and his role in this little family. I see he is starting to breed and I want to know about eating eggs if they get fertilized. I don't know anyone else raising chickens so I have no one to ask. So, if I collect eggs everyday are they edible? And, If I want to let one or two grow, how do I do that? I love my girls,,, and now my big boy Rocky... ty

If you collect the eggs daily, they will be fine to eat. They need to be incubated for development to start. If you want to hatch some of the eggs, you can get an incubator or if one of your hens goes broody you can allow her to set on some eggs for 21 days.

That's funny to me. As a new chicken mama, I check mine hourly! I put them on a pretty pink platter & at the end of the day, I look at them before they go in the fridge. I know, I'm sick. I can't help it - I love my girls!

oh yes I watch and I know who is laying and where and when it happens. We compare sizes, colors and shape of each chickens eggs. My granddaughter even got mad and said "nana, not everything is about chickens"... lol, YES IT IS!! I love them. But now I also have a couple flocks of turkeys #6 in all, watering and stuff. Hope they don't pass on anything as we let our girls free range most of the day.. Got a pick of your girls?
