Hens Crop Not Empting at Night Please help

hows it going pwand? is she all better now? :fl  xxx

She is better. Her crop seems to get smaller each evening, more closer to normal. I compare her to the other girls. She's is now having problems with losing her eggs into the poop container seems towards morning for 4 mornings now. Her shell is thin. I'm sure it because of the lack of nutrients from the past month. I gave her a calcium tablet, did not seem to help. Hope this will correct itself. I haven't checked her crop for two mornings. Will look tomorrow morning. I worry about the problem coming back, I feel she will be fine. Thanks for asking. :)

so shes laying eggs on the roost? hah thats one ive not come accross before, maybe shes just tired from the illness and still gaining strength back, cant be bothered to get down from the roost?! calcium tablet should help shells, and plenty of oyster shell availible, im pretty sure you said they do have that anyway. hopefully it wont come back but keep a close eye on that crop, the sooner you notice it reocurring the easier it is to get it gone again and quicker! at least you know what works now.
bombies hasnt come back (touch wood , whistle!) and you know i had a few bouts with her, im hoping it stays gone too but i am also paranoid! i try and check her morning and night! im quite obsessed! lol thou you have more chooks to look after than me i think!
hope to hear soon that shes getting her eggs in the right basket! lol and staying well xxx

She is still dropping her eggs in the night. I changed the timer one hour earlier hoping she can get to the nest box in time, didn't work, egg was under the roost in the rubber maid container that catches the poop. The shells are hardening up, not breaking anymore considering they are dropping in the tote. this morning it was a double yoke egg. Ochh. I have only three chickens, niice number.

My hen is still doing fine, I keep checking her crop. It's getting nice and small and tight. Almost the same as the other girls and in the morning, it's empty. I'm also obsessed checking. All my girls gets checked. They would prefer me to stop. :). I'm going away tomorrow for a week and a bit nervous. Need to relax and trust things will work out.

glad to hear an update :) shells seem to be much harder now if they arnt breaking from the fall! thats good. weird shes doing that but maybe its a behavioural thing rather than a health thing?
i hope you enjoy your break away, try to relax and not worry too much, her crop sounds like its back to normal so a week away shouldnt be a worry. im sure your first moments back will be spent on a crop inspection lol but we all need a break sometimes and it seems a good time to go while the crops behaving!
i know how you mean byw, my chickens are most put out that i check them constantly! lol
have a fun trip! xx

I am having the same problem with one of my Sussex. Her crop does not empty out and she does that crazy neck dance as well. I have taken her to the vet but not very successful. He emptied out her crop and put her on antibiotics but the same thing has happened again. The vet did tell me that it was possible something was blocking things past her crop but as long as she didn't eat any grass her crop would seem to empty some what, and she would have normal poop so a blockage after her crop didn't seem right. My husband seems to think she has something larger in her crop that will not deteriorate on its own and when she eats grass it wraps around it and blocks the grass from passing. He also was upset that the vet did not cut her crop open and check that and clean it out properly after charging me 200.00 for something that didn't work. I hope things are alright with your hen and if you corrected to problem please let me know how.

Shell: I'm hopping she will start holding on to her egg and making it to the nest box soon. Hubby said she is still dropping the egg. Your right about the crop inspection. :)

Bog: Thank You :)

It's to bad the vet didn't open her up and emptied the crop. Is the vet an Avian Vet. As for what I did, it's all in this thread, it was a big process and to much to explain again, its best if you read through the thread.

little lady- if its a blockage some veg oil and a massage might clear it through just a couple mls or so at a time for a day or two.see if that helps. if its sour crop(big crop filled with liquid) you dont want the crop cut open as the infection will spread to the exposed tissue and even with antibiotics would likely do more harm than good. what does the crop feel like. big small liquid? any hard masses you can feel inside? what meds is she on and for how long?

shell3 thanks for the reply as well. I would have answered sooner but have been watching my little lady. About a week ago her crop seemed to start emptying a little, well it seemed like a hard golf ball left in her crop but in the last week its been very large and squishy and when she bends her head down to eat or anything she starts regurgitating on her own. a week or so before that she was on flagyl for bout 2 weeks. I tried today to get her Nystatin ( Saturday ) but found my vet for my dogs where closed so have to wait until Monday now. So for right now I guess I'm own my own with home remedies which I hope so much want hurt her. I feel so bad for her when I watch her, she just looks so lost and stays right by my feet if she is outside. I just want to make sure I am helping her the best that I can. Thanks everyone for all the help it is so much appreciated.
