Hens in an igloo on the trash can.

Went down to the property today and checked on the hens in the igloo in the Chicken jail. All's quiet in the igloo. Both are being flat-hens so the move last night didn't upset them. Now waiting on the kids to arrive. :-)

Will keep you posted.

Friday afternoon update. Went down to feed everyone today and there was one momma out of the igloo looking quite like a mother hen. I walked over to the chicken jail and she had one baby out with her, and I heard another in the igloo. She took one look at me and turned around and marched into the igloo, baby in tow. The other night when we moved the igloo, I faced her igloo opening so that was near the back of the existing igloo, so I can't peek in!

I'm pretty sure the other hen is still on her eggs. Not sure if they'll both mother both sets of chicks??? They've been sitting together in tight quarters for weeks now, so I'm hoping they all get along.

Any thoughts?

Same thing happened with our banties that free range. Four hens were piled in the small turkey house sitting on large clutch of eggs. When the first few hatched one of the hens claimed them and left th house then came the next few and so forth now all four hens have their own little batch of chicks to take care of. The chicks seem to know who moma is when they call no fighting amonst the moms either. Did notice when one of the chicks is in trouble they all four come running.
