Hens laying in left box only?

i have 17 hens all wanting the same nesting box....i have 3 boxes inside the coop and 4 outside the coop they finally tried the outside and they will only use the 2 to the left there also???? go figure......
They are probably having a good laugh over it too, I swear somedays mine get more comic relief from making me wonder and try and fix things than they are for me lol. or they just are bored and like to see us working and changing things haven't decided yet, they do keep us on our toes though

just found my hens stash, thought they had quit laying for the winter, the dare devils laid them in a box inside the pen where the new pullets had been quarantined lol. that isn't even a laying box was just a small place for them to get outta the weather. surprised the pullets didn't eat or break the eggs, wouldn't have even found them if wasn't looking for a missing pullet lol

My last coop had two nesting boxes, and all ten hens would use the same one.Usually this was the right , but sometimes they would switch off.

All at once, of course.

P.S. Anyone who thinks only humans desire privacy has obviously never had a cat...

Looking for a hen at night is how I found the nest of 19 Easter Egger eggs. 4 were from Penelope, the rest from Cassie.

i have attached the photos of my nesting boxes, somehow they do like the outside boxes as they can see what is going on outside and if treats are being offered...lol, but some like their privacy.... IMG_5516.JPG IMG_5517.JPG

I got my four birds in June and at the time I got them, they were 19 weeks old. Initially, would only use one box and they'd wait their turn to lay. At least I assume that they were queueing because they don't go into the coop except to lay and sleep. They'd always lay by 8 AM. Now that they're older, I'm finding eggs in both boxes, usually three in the popular box, one in the other. Sometimes two and two, but they are not always there before I go to work at 9. I assume that they're not always ready to lay at sunup anymore. You'd think that more out of sync laying schedules would reduce the need to queue for one box and be therefore reduce the likelihood that one goes to the less popular box. I just don't get the logic of their little feather-covered brains of theirs.

WELL you know they lay every 26 hours so every day that hen will lay 2 hours later than she did the day before...i never had a problem with my girls laying eggs anywhere other than their nesting boxes unless of course they lay an opps egg during the night and its a soft shell..usually the youngins do that til they get into the rythym of laying the eggs
