Hens wing torn off

Yes she is currently in the garage in a large crate. She’s warm, eating drinking and pooping.
I will also do my best to wash the wound regularly and put betadine on it. We can bring her to the vet Monday. She doesn’t seem to be in too much pain, would it be ok for her to wait that long given what I’d be doing?

Honestly, I don’t think you should wait that long. Her wing was literally torn from her body. She needs help ASAP.

Chickens are great at hiding illness and pain until things are severe. If the bone is broken in half, there's a high risk for infection, and a topical application of betadine will not be enough, especially with bone marrow exposed. You'll need oral antibiotics and a method to remove the exposed bone. If there's any necrotic tissue, it needs to be removed ASAP. You may need to cull because she will certainly go down hill from here.

I think you can do this. if she's eating and drinking I think you may have a good outcome.
If you're taking her to a vet they'll be able to help take that bone back to the joint. Personally I would have attempted it myself.
But if you decide to put her down, it's not a wrong decision for you!
Best of luck :hugs

Yes you’re right, the soonest I could get an appointment was late Saturday, it was the only time the one avian vet in our area could do. I mean, better then nothing right?

Good! So glad you can get her in sooner. Keep doing what you’re doing to minimize her discomfort and keep the area as clean as possible. :hugs

Ok so plan right now is, keep it clean and sterilized til Saturday, bring her to the vet, if needed I will cull her, I won’t keep her alive if she can’t, but hopefully she will recover. Thank you guys so much, I never really expected this so happen, I’m still sorta processing it.

Good plan. So sorry you’re dealing with this but you’re a good chicken momma getting her the care she needs. Please keep us updated!
