Her Eye Is Gone!!! Help!!!!

I agree she will learn to get around with one eye. I think I would give her a shot of PenG antibiotic to keep infection from starting. I had a sheep who stuck her head through the fence some how poked her eye out and almost ripped off one ear. She took a while but now she gets along fine. The eye socket still seeps but I keep watching it for infection but so far so good. Good luck.

I have separated her from the others now, She is in a medium sized dog crate in our basement. She has food, water and a nest box. Anything else I need (other than antibiotics) should I put things in there to keep her entertained and keep her from being lonely? do I need a roost? Will she be able to get on the roost? how long does she need to be seperated??? I have so many questions!!!

Could it be just an infection? I looked up "Eye Gone" in the search box and on one of the posts somebody thought their chickens eye was gone and it was kinda swollen like Ruby's is and someone posted that is was not, because if it was gone then there would be an indent, but ruby doesnt have that. Here's a pic...

I hope her eye is there!!

Looks like maybe the eye is still there. I've seen quite a few "eye" injuries at the vets office I worked at. There is always way more trauma, and it will ooz, drain quite a bit, when the actual eyeball is injured. Maybe your dealing with an eye infection? You'll need to apply eye ointment. A ribbon of terrymiacin 2 or 3 times a day, across eye. So you'll have to pry open her eyelid alittle. Maybe even oral antibiotics, or injectable. along with the ointment.

it looks like her eye might still be intact in there.. definitely use some eye ointment and keep it clean, I am sure she will pull through fine. You may want to keep her cage somewhere where the other chickens can see her still so that when you re-introduce her she won't be a total stranger to them- re-introducing a lone chicken can be tough if the others don't remember her they may attack her.

Seriously - it does look like her eye is still there and hens are resilient. She should be fine just make sure you don;t let the others peck at her and that you put an eye ointment on her to prevent infection. Even if she has lost the eye there are many one eyed birds - she will adapt.
