HERE IT IS,The ultimate ROOST!

Okay, after a long wait here it is. Sorry it took so long but with all I've got to handle it was near to impossible to get it done. But here it is. And I'm quite proud of it

, as are my babes.Sorry if the pics aren't that great, I don't have a decent digital camera to speak of.My babes roost under the stars, so I made it where it would lean against the hen house. And they love the height of it. They even walk around on the roof of the house. I will add a pic of them roosting tonight. Tell me what you think!!!!

I used 2 inch PVC. I cut 2 of the 10ft. poles in 24 in. sections. I glued them together with PVC tees, making sure to turn the tee to the center to hold my individual rungs. I made sure to cap in open ends with PVC caps. And I use bricko-blocks to keep the footing in place. I guess I could cement them in the ground, but that's too much work in this heat. Plus the ground Is like concrete anyway.

Each rung is 5ft. long

I added the 2 5ft braces recently, to make it more stable and prevent bounce.

I don't think you can see it in the pic. But I wrapped the rungs in that shelf lining stuff, that is soft and grippy. I secured it with zip ties. And my babes love the comfort and traction of it.

Thanks, I will take a pic tonight of them on it. I made it big enough for 25 chickens, but now I'm down to 10. I hope the remaining will fill it up for me.

I was going to ask if you roughed up the PVC with sandpaper to help them hold it BUT you did one better!!!

Looks great!!

We use PVC to make a parrot playstand for our bird he crashed a lot until I sanded the PVC pipes for him.

Awesome idea. My hubby used the wood (not spindles but thin narrow ones used to build around a deck or porch), but the same concept. My question is whether the babes will attempt to try and eat the shelf lining stuff. I know mine would at least to find out what it was. I was curious if yours have tried to "taste" it yet? Great job. You deserve a pat on the back. Let us know if they don't bother it.

It doesn't interest them in the least. By the time they roost they are too sleepy to concern themselves. I had the same concern but they have been no problem.
