I have the same problem during lockdown. I put in a "butter" tub with two sponges, fill the reserve but can never get it above 60 and then yes, slowly goes down a couple every 12hrs or so. Although, my last (first) batch hatched out okay, some reason I feel I need to still get it jacked up a little higher.
I have just now added another tub of water and will see what that will do.
I bought the incubator used and it works great but it did not come with any plugs.

Thinking I should find something to plug the holes, what do you think?

Yu can plug it but they say once a chick pips unplug as they need the air. I try and keep mine unplugged unless i open it and need th humidity to go up first.Plug it for a bit unles some are pipped

I have my 7 BR chicks (6 weeks) from my first hatch. The hatch after that was only a singleton RIR so I bought 2 Araucana and 1 Brahma mix as company for her. They are 2-3 weeks old. I have 3 Araucana eggs due to hatch this Saturday. I am praying that none of them have the double tufted gene because it is lethal at day 18 for some reason. Then I have 25 in my 2nd bator (Silkies, Marans and a WellSummer.) So as of today I only have 11 chicks. Thank the Lord I have 10 acres and can happily house all of them.

YOu are doing better than me Started with 11 sold 3 grown then started hatching....guaaah now have 22 not counting the 3 that are leaving .!!!EEEHH

CRITICAL...You gotta have it at least 65 (I prefer 70 to be safe) or the babies can shrinkwrap when they start to pip.Have any pipped yet? If not you are in good shape.
You will have to sneak in a wet wash cloth or rag or something and a spot where you can add water if you need to.I add two 4' by 2 or 3 " t shirt material lrags wet and it does a good job. to keept it up to 70-75 .
Do you have a ittle hole with a straw in the bator to add water?
If not next time make one if you have a styrofoam incubator .
Use a syringe to put water in the straw.Or some ppl use clear tubing. Anyway if you have a hole put the rag under the hole so the straw can add water on it and not open the bator .
If you dont have a hole i would put the rag near where you open it and then to keep it wet crack the bator when the humidity gets low and use a straw or turkey baster ceack the bator .squirt it in Once you add water wait about 15 minutes and see how high it comes up. you dont want it over 80 for sure..
More critical to keep it at least 65 than to NOT open the bator a crack. but do it fast ..

I really think it depends on where you live. I went by the book the first hatch and all my chicks were very wet when they hatched. I tried 60% the last time and the chick was wet but not soaking like the first batch. This time around I am going with what my egg lady said and only adding 10-20cc at lock down. I have been only adding water (about a TBSP.) when the humidity has dropped below 30% and then raising it to around 40% and then letting it go until it drops below 30 again. All the air cells are right where they should be size wise for their age. But that is here in Florida.

Roxanne is right. All plugs should be open when they start to pip. They need fresh air to breathe.

True .... you are in florida so that does make a diff. Humid as it is. dont need 65. ...I was thinking of the areas of the country where o/s air humidity is about 40-50% usually. Didnt see Feather? where she was from.. Still i would think the bator humidty would still be more what you would go by until you see what you get in babies catagory UNLESS you are in a very humid place.... and yes the air cell size.IS best....if you can see it.
.My brown eggs honestly i can BARELY see it only sometimes and just can see it very faintly so it isnt a good indicator for me with my eggs or my candler.I have bought 2 and neither is any better.Pretty disapointed in the second thought it would do better.

Well so hard to tell and i am so optimistic... but i saw one that looks for sure about 5 others that are maybes,. but frankly look more like very late quiters as they have an air cell I can see showing or a clear spot whatever... but most of mine are all totally dark when they will hatch so not sure about these.Wonder if i need some extra humidity? not sure Day 17 wouldnt hurt to lock already I dont think..might help if they arent dead already might not.

I haven't got a clue on that one best wait for one of the others to answer that question for ya I defo seen 1 move in my egg it's the other egg of mine I ain't sure of I will need some stiff drinks to get me through this hatch
