I remember reading somewhere that a person stuck some clear contact paper on the top of those and then just peeled it off and threw it away when they were done. Saved them from scrubbing all the dried poop off it.
aH! Good idea. I spend 20 minutes a piece rying to get that dried coating off.

Okay cool. I have silkies so they are suppose to be really good in winter conditions. I live in GA so I am hoping they will all do well with no heat this winter. I do have my baby chicks in my potting shed with two heat lamps and an electric heater running full on to try and keep the shed at 95 for those little cutie pies.

I live in Michigan and it is getting in the low 30s at night. I dont have a heated coop. The eco glow says not to use it when it is less than 50 degrees. I am worried about this last hatch. I probably timed it too late in the year, but I couldnt help myself. I can only keep them in the house for a week (agreement with the dh)... not sure they will survive the cold weather even with the eco glow.

Hatch update. Out of 30 shipped eggs, 13 hatched. I had 10 that made it to lock down not hatch. One pipped but got another hatched shell stuck over the top of it and I didn't catch it until too late. One other one unzipped half way, but died before it got out sometime during the night. None of the others pipped. It is so hard to see during candling that I am not sure if they were developing or not. I did the float test this morning and I saw zero movement from any of the eggs. I am leaving the eggs in until tomorrow morning and then cleaning out the incubator until spring. Perhaps in the spring I will be able to hatch my own eggs! So, 4 black americaunas and 9 black copper marans. One of each looks a little iffy on whether or not they will make it.... perhaps we will have some easter eggers in our future:)

My Chicks are hatching and doing well. I will update with photos later. Also have a hen setting. I am hoping to introduce the chicks to then hen after hatch (hers are 2 days behind) any thoughts?

Things have gone really well for me - we are all done.

I have 8 healthy chicks from 8 fertile eggs. The other 4 were not fertile and I discarded them at 9 days. These were all shipped.

4 Barred Rocks
3 Silver Laced Wyandottes
1 Golden Laced Wayndotte

Do you call this 100% or 65% success? Either way I am very pleased considering it was my first time ever - using my home made incubator!

Awesome success!!!! That is completely amazing. You obviously had everything set PERFECTLY. I would love to know what thermometer/hygrometer you used. Would you be able to send me the brand/make e.t.c, coz I'm battling with my thermometers

It would actually be a 67% hatch rate!! That is GREAT for shipped eggs. Still nothing from my 2 other eggs. I am not really expecting them to hatch given that they are Araucanas. CONGRATS to you on your success!!

I found these great thermometers and hygrometers on ebay. When I calibrated the thermometers (you get 10 of them) they were all dead on. The hygrometer I bought can be calibrated and the best part was that the person is from the Tampa area so you get it in a matter of days.
