Here we go, Code Enforcement's coming

Time to get a goat I guess.

Where I live it's a code violation, & I worry every day that I'll get caught with my 9 hens. I've had to give away some wonderful roosters because I was afraid the crowing would tip off the neighbors! I keep them in nice enclosed pens in the backyard, & only a few neighbors know about them. This is TEXAS! The city codes on chickens should be nonexistant!

Here's another great resource to help you if you chose to fight this and get your laws changed.

I used to live in Wisconsin and was really amazed that Madison is now not only allowed but people are encouraged to have chickens in their city backyards!

Good luck.

I HATE HATE HATE HATE the code enforcement people!!!!!! I think they are a useless waste of tax money!!! I feel your pain, and I think you should throw eggs at them when they try to come to your door!!!

I have had many battles with them when I lived in town over my lawn. we had 4 hurricanes in a row a few yrs ago, and our backyard was flooded, I could not mow it....everyone on the block had the same problem. I got notice after notice, went to my neighbors, they got nothing. The stupid people would park in front of my yard and talk for hours on their cell phones...I am SOOOOO sorry you have to deal with it too! to heck with them!!!

Mt father went through that too. He told the young guy that came to the door..."If you want it moved young man, my mower is in the shed. You break it, you fix it" then he slammed the door.

My father had a heart attack as they were getting hit by Jeanne and had a double bypass the next day. So when young man came three weeks later...let's just say he was not in the mood for his nonsense.

Speaking from experience...find another case. California law is usually ignored by any other jurisidiction. If it is a Federal case, it stands some chance. Trust me, there is good reason for this behavior.

Florida Judges look at California case law and say "That's nice...got anything else?"

You do realize that case you are reciting will allow for the cruel abusive slaughter of chickens? It takes chickens out of the category requiring human treatment and slaughter. That is what I mean about Cali case law.

This was a Federal Court and what I was referring to was the judge ruled to start with that poultry is not livestock.
