here's our coop so far . . .

MY ADDICTION REQUIRES MORE PICTURES!!!! and I'm not yelling...just stating the facts............
I just think this coop is going to be special. I have a square and level and use them, but it seems everything I build doesn't end up square and level....I call it....ADDING CHARACTER....perhaps I need new glass's....please, please more pic's
BYC Forum is the place we all start the race as an EGG!

This is why we buried the galvanized metal straight down - my hope was that anything that tries to dig in will hit sheet metal and give up. I'll probably also add the hardware cloth on the soil at the two ends; I can't do it on the front edge because that's the dogs' racetrack and I don't want them catching their toes in it.

John added some more to it today, and started working on the roof of the run. It'll be hinged so I can lift it up to walk into the run, and the roof of the henhouse will be hinged too, for cleaning inside. I'm so excited! It's turning out way nicer than I thought it would. These cheeky chicks better appreciate it!

I'm glad you think so - I'm very pleased so far. I'll post more, with details, once it's finished - we're going to crank it out this weekend - it's do or die!! As for the level/square, I'm with you. I have the best of intentions but I can't drill a centered hole or make something square to save my life. I'm so lucky that John is a perfectionist . . . even though it sometimes leads to . . . shall we say friction? But I usually defer to him because I know he's right - there's a right way to do everything! And our mantra is "measure twice - cut once", or sometimes "What would Norm do?"

Friction! I like it! This is by far my favorite section of BYC, so yes, can't wait for the update! Great job so far!

Pictures please, I want to see some progress....I'm drooling out of both sides of my mouth.....mmmmm???? I must me level headed tonight. Pictures please.......

Ok - you asked for it. Here's the progress (John's been home the last few days so he's worked on it while I toil at the day job).
Here we've finished the back wall (where the nest box will go later):

and here he's added the floor of the henhouse, and started on the frame for the top of the run:

and here's a detail: this baby is built solid!

and my contribution of the evening: I built the feeder out of PVC rain gutter stuff - cost about $12 and I think it looks pretty slick! Gave it a test-drive and it worked great. The clips will mount to the coop and allow it to be removed for cleaning etc.

All in all I'm thrilled with how it's going so far. This weekend we'll tackle the roof, doors, roost and a little ramp up to the house, and then we'll help the girls pack their bags. I'm so excited!

I think it looks great! That wall behind it is wonderful -- wish we had one in our back yard.

I can't wait to see the finished product -- I hope you'll show the feeder in use. That was a good idea. Hmmm. We have some of that gutter material around here......
