Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Kwanza, etc! Here's your present: a solution to roof netting sag. (which sounds sorta harmless but...well, it ain't pretty!)
OK...I'm broke thirty, so I used cheap fruit tree/Home Depot netting over the biggest run since it's huge: 35x40 feet in the main area with a side yard off behind the coop.
Problem is...as soon as it snowed even slightly, the netting drooped down to the ground, which meant I used up ALL of my cusswords trying to stand under it and gently poof the snow off...
<imagine 40 pounds of snow down the back of your shirt at 5am...not a pretty sight>
I priced how much it would cost me to put posts up and gerryrig something to hold it up...and cussed some more.
Then I remembered I had two tall ladders...and two 12 foot tall ladders carefully opened in the run---which pushed the netting upward two or three feet higher than its normal height---was the answer. Yes, it looks odd, and makes the netting look like a circus tent in those two spots. But the net is so taut now that the snow sifts through.
I know this because I've gotten over 16 inches of snow in the last two weeks! My camera died but I'll try and take a pic tomorrow. I'm at about 5,000 foot elevation in Nevada, and the only thing I had to do is tie the ladders together for wind...but the snow somehow sifts thru since the netting is so tight.
