55 yesterday & oh so nice & sunny.
Played hide & seek

Today is blowing a hurricane, up to 1" of rain & weather heads say snow level is dropped to 500 feet.......gusts to 60, sustained at 30-45, what a difference 12 hrs makes.
You would not know it was the same place, or season.

Wyoming bans all turkeys that are related to wild turkeys.



The attached letter was received by the Secretary of the Exhibition Turkey Fanciers. Please read the letter then read this link at ALBC: http://www.albc-usa.org/cpl/narragansett.html



Then assist us in helping fellow breeders of poultry in Wyoming. Call the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and ask for Director Scott Talbott. Explain to him that the Narragansett Turkey has been recognized as a domesticated livestock for over 400 years. You may file a formal online complaint at http://gf.state.wy.us/wildlife/enforcement/stoppoaching/submitTip.aspx



Then call the Wyoming’s Governor Matthew Mead at 307-777-7434 and explain to his office that the Narragansett Turkey has been recognized as a domesticated livestock for over 400 years. You may email the Governor at http://governor.wy.gov/contactus/Pages/default.aspx



We must protect our rights to own livestock. Arkansas Game and Fish attempted a similar ban this year concerning ALL waterfowl. We won! Now Wyoming Game and Fish. What state is next?

how rare are chocolate turkeys are they rarer then midget whites? i want to get some chocolates from mcmurry hatchery

Neither the Midget White or Chocolate is in the Standard of Perfection. However, they can still be shown as "All Other Variety". Any turkey is better than no turkey!

Here is a thought, order a few of each and help preserve two varieties of Heritage Turkeys.

That was the muscovey duck deal, right?
I am trying to remember where I read it, and seems it was in the SPPA newsletter, correct?

I think I remeber reading it & wondering how on earth they ever got the idea this duck was a wild species in the first place?
Does someone just go around & DECIDE something is a truley wild species?????

At the County Fair here last August, there were 5-6 turkeys.
A pair of bourbon reds, a few narragansetts, and my MWs.................
My MWs won, BB, BV, (1st for the young tom & 2nd for the younger pullet)
then went on to win Champions of the entire Poultry Show.
I was blown away.......still am.
Edited to add: These birds were only about 2 1/2 mo old at the time!

The last pic they were about 3 mo old.

I think they were judged by smaller versions of the commercial white.

I really wish there were a small version of Narragansetts, and boubon reds...would that not be great?
Quite a few people do not have the room for big birds.
These birds shown were hatched the first of July 2011.

This spring the Arkansas Game and Fish tried to ban ALL waterfowl in Arkansas, not just Muscovy. Several carried the charge for us. Then the main fellow came to a regional meeting on waterfowl hunting. We attended and took teh opportunity as teh only "public" present to show documentation of our case. I took the Standard of Perfection, NPIP Product code list etc. They have now decided to only regulated non-livestock waterfowl.

Their reasoning was they needed to protect wildlife and our poultry industry from disease like Avian Influenza. We have the Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission that does that job.
