Thank you to all the responses regarding wry tail, lazy tail, crooked backs, etc! I decided not to enter the pullet in question.

Another question for you show folk though...how on earth do you all clean the bird's legs, specifically the scales? I just worked on a rooster for 2 hours with a curved nail file thing and barely made a dent in the dirt. I guess yellow just shows the dirt more too. Is this one of those things that you have to do thoroughly and then keep it up often?
I figure I'll work on him a bit at a time until the dirt is gone, but I'm afraid that the scales are going to look rough when we're done.

Are you bathing this bird? Some good soapy water and a toothbrush will often work wonders.

I did this morning, but maybe I washed the legs wrong. I brushed down with the scales...was I supposed to brush all different directions?

I will scrub in all directions on the legs if they need it. Sometimes you have to soak them for a while. Normally I don't recommend Dawn for washing birds, but you might need it for these legs if they're that bad.

Well this shows the right side I worked on already and the center, which I didn't finish yet. Just seems like there's still dirt showing, even when I can't get anything else out. I'll try washing just the legs/feet again.

I'm not sure that's dirt, per se. That might be staining of some sort under the scales. I think I'd just leave that be.

Me too! Grain p rices are UP, and a good crop was expected this year.

I get their Forage Oats at Tractor Supply Company to sprout for my birds.
