Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

Thanks I will have to pick some up. Does the frostbite affect the roosters fertility? I read somewhere it did.
I've never had frostbite( well except my one roo, but he doesn't count ) so I can't go from experience just what I've ben told/read. I'm not sure when it does come back, but fertility is suppose to go away for a while.
The biggest thing I laugh at when people rush the supermarkets day before a snow storm.. Don't people have food for 1-2 days of food before then storm? Americans have a system to think they need food before a storm and stock up and act like they don't have food in the fridge.
The thing I like is they go out and get milk and bread. Things along those lines. Like if you were going to get snowed in I don't think that would help much

Thanks brahmabreeder.

Milk you could put in a cooler with ice from the freezer if the power stays out too long. And you can always make pb&j sandwiches.

guilty on the milk... We drink gallons of cocoa after a big day of coasting, and a big pot of potato soup, and grilled cheeses. Takes milk and bread to pull that off.

It's what they call a tradition!

Chickens are stomping around on top of the ice crust here this morning...

I milk both sheep and cattle... if we don't grow it or raise it, then we don't eat it.
I hate going to the grocery store, but I do venture that way every few months for toilet paper and coffee...
When it snows, I just stay home... This is God's country and there's no place else I'd rather be.

Snow day here... It was SO peaceful and quiet early this morning when we went to check for newborn lambs.
Chickens say they are staying in... lambs say... no way, we are playing!

They are basic to cooking. French toast, sandwiches, all kinds of hot food made on a camp stove and cold food if the power is out. Milk can be kept on a cold porch if the refrig goes out. Water, eggs, flour, dry cereal, all basic for bad storms.
milk and bread are also two things you cannot make at home during a power outage. You can reconstitute dry milk but most kids don't like it. Hot cocoa made with milk on a camp stove is great for calming kids down and getting them to nod off to sleep. During a bad storm, it is all about comfort food and food which calms down the kids. Food which is camping food, done in a fun manner so the kids don't get scared.
